Nebraska Farm Bureau endorses Sen. Deb Fischer's re-election bid

The political arm of the Nebraska Farm Bureau has thrown its support behind U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer in her bid for re-election.

Mark McHargue, head of the Nebraska Farm Bureau’s political action committee,

cited Fischer’s work on such things as encouraging the repeal of the EPA’s Waters of the United States rule, promoting trade deals favorable to Nebraska, and introducing a bipartisan bill to exempt farmers and ranchers from emissions reporting that Fischer said was intended to address industrial, not agricultural, pollution.

“You are one of us,” he told Fischer, a rancher from Valentine and first-term senator. “Forty-plus years of life experience makes a difference.”

Fischer said she was honored.

“We’ve worked together on a lot of issues and we’ve gotten things done,” she said.

Fischer, a Republican, recently joined the Senate Agriculture Committee and was named chair of the Livestock, Marketing, and Agriculture Security Subcommittee.

Her likely Democratic opponent in the general election is Lincoln City Councilwoman Jane Raybould.
