House passes Don Bacon's bill to bolster sharing of security information

WASHINGTON — The House on Monday passed legislation introduced by Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., aimed at improving partnerships between the Department of Homeland Security and local law enforcement agencies.

The bill, which still must pass the Senate, targets so-called “fusion centers,” where threat-related information is gathered and shared among federal, state and local authorities.

The bill would provide upgrades to information sharing systems, require an agencywide strategy for fusion centers and mandate performance metrics to hold Homeland Security field personnel accountable.
