Nebraska Hospital Association backs Deb Fischer for Senate

A trade group that represents the interests of Nebraska’s hospitals and health care systems threw its support behind U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer’s re-election.

Fischer’s campaign announced the endorsement Monday, saying the group’s backing shows the importance Fischer places on health care.

The Nebraska Hospital Association, which represents 89 Nebraska hospitals, lauded Fischer’s work as a state legislator and U.S. senator on behalf of hospitals small and large.

“Her years of dedication and strong track record of accomplishment on behalf of our Nebraska member hospitals is invaluable,” said Laura Redoutey, the association’s president.

Fischer, a Republican, stressed the importance of retaining choices and access for people seeking health care, regardless of where they live.

“Health care touches the lives of every Nebraskan,” said Fischer, of Valentine.

Fischer’s opponent this fall, Lincoln City Councilwoman Jane Raybould, has railed against Fischer’s votes to chip away at the Affordable Care Act.

Hilary Nachem, Raybould’s campaign manager, said Raybould would do more than Fischer to “bring costs down for Nebraska families.”

Nachem said voters should remember Fischer’s vote to repeal the individual mandate, which the Raybould camp blames for rising health insurance premiums in 2019. — Aaron Sanderford
