NEGOP & LCRP: Adam Morfeld Fails County Attorney Job Requirements

Today, the Nebraska Republican Party and Lancaster County Republican Party announced that they had filed objections to Adam Morfeld’s candidacy for the Office of Lancaster County Attorney.

“Adam Morfeld wants to serve as prosecutor for Lancaster County, yet the record shows he does not meet the minimum requirement to hold this office. County attorneys are at the heart of the justice system that protects our communities, and it’s critical that any candidate meet those requirements,” said Nebraska Republican Party Chairman Dan Welch, who is also a practicing attorney.

“Nebraska law clearly lays out the requirements to serve as county attorney, and that includes actively practicing law for two years.” said Lancaster County Republican Party Chairman Eric Underwood.

Nebraska state law requires “No person shall seek nomination or appointment for the office of county attorney in [Lancaster County], nor serve in that capacity, unless he or she has been admitted to the practice of law in this state for at least two years next preceding the date such person would take office and has practiced law actively in this state during such two-year period.”

A letter was delivered to the Lancaster County Election Commissioner outlining the objections earlier today. A copy of the letter can be found by clicking here.
